Completing a domestic double would be a dream come true for Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert, although the free-scoring midfielder isn’t taking the final hurdle for granted. After sealing the SSE Women’s FA Cup at Wembley earlier this month, the Blues need only a point to guarantee the FA Women’s Super League 1 title.
And the crown could be Chelsea’s as soon as Tuesday evening as they head to Bristol City, a game that is live on BT.
“We’re really excited but we’ll be approaching this game in the same way that we’ve approached every game this season,” said the 19-year-old.
“I think for us it’s been a case of taking one game at a time and the next one just happens to be for the league. We’re really looking forward to it and there’s a real buzz around the training ground.
“Bristol City are a very difficult side and they made it very tough for us last time [Chelsea ran out 2-1 winners over the Vixens in the Continental Tyres Cup last November] and I’m sure they’ll want to spoil the celebrations, as any team would.
“We’re under no illusions that it’s going to be a very tough game. We’ve got a lot of quality in this team and a lot of match winners that can get us the victory.
“We’re all level-headed and know that we need to give everything for 90 minutes and see where the result takes us. I believe we’ve got enough quality in the team that if we put in a good performance, then we should get a result.”
Chelsea have lost just one domestic match all season – a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Continental Tyres Cup semi-final – and that has spurred on Emma Hayes’ side, according to the Scotland international.
The Blues are just two games away from going an entire league campaign undefeated and Cuthbert is confident this season is just the start of things to come.
“We’re definitely moving in the right direction,” Cuthbert said.
“Since I joined the club, Emma [Hayes] had the vision to be dominant and we set a goal at the start of this season to be competing for all four trophies.
“The character of the team is so strong. Nobody sees what happens in training. I think for us, it’s all about what happens on the training pitch.
“Everyone puts the extra miles in for sure and I think that’s what got us here.”
It has been a fine season for Cuthbert, who has netted 10 times in 23 appearances, but despite a trophy in the offing, the midfielder still isn’t fully satisfied.
She said: “For me, I want more. I want to experience more and start more games.
“For this season, it’s definitely been very successful for me. I’ve scored a lot more goals than I thought I would – that was nice. You always want more as a player.”

The match kicks off at 7pm on Tuesday.
