Chelsea top the shot list

Despite their slow start to the current season, Chelsea Women are the only team in the Women’s Super League to have had more than 200 shots on goal.

The statistic is one of a new batch of Opta figures released this week as the team gear up for their home tie against Reading on Sunday December 2… a match which sees the return of Gemma Davison to Kingsmeadow. She is revealed as the league’s joint top dribbler, so her former team-mates will be keeping a close eye on her.

The new Opta stats show Chelsea have had 201 shots on goal, scoring 10 times. But demonstrating the gulf separating first from third at present, Arsenal have scored 28 goals more than the Blues, from just 160 shots on goal.

Another reason for Chelsea to be wary of their opponents on December 2 is the fact that Reading’s Jo Potter has created 188 chances in her FA WSL career, 12 short of being only the second player to reach 200 after Blues club captain Karen Carney.

In the away dressing room, adding an extra pair of shinpads, will be Reading’s Remi Allen, the only player in FA WSL history to be fouled more than 200 times. Her current record stands at 211.
