It’s going to be a traditional Sunday afternoon kick-off time for Chelsea Women when they face Liverpool Women in the 5th round of the FA Cup at Kingsmeadow, shortly after Valentine’s Day… and a full house is anticipated.

But the visitors – who drew with Chelsea at Prenton Park in December in one of the surprise results of the first half of the season – won’t be expecting any bouquets of red roses from their hosts.

Chelsea are still smarting from that unexpected 1-1 outcome against a team they really should have beaten. Emma Hayes pointed the finger at Tranmere Rovers’ mashed-up pitch, on which Liverpool Women play, but there was really no excuse for the failure to find the back of the net more than once.

The teams will go head to head at the Blues home, Kingsmeadow, in the FA Cup on Sunday February 16, with a 2pm kick-off time. And Chelsea will be determined to make a better job of the tie than they did on The Wirral before Christmas.

The Blues reached the last 16 of the competition with the comfortable 4-0 win at Charlton at the weekend. It’s a trophy that Chelsea have lifted before – in 2015 and in 2018, when two goals from Ramona Bachmann and a successful strike from Fran Kirby secured the win over Arsenal at Wembley.

Tickets for the February 16 match are £9 for adults and £1 for over 65s and U20s.
