The Year of the Rat was celebrated this week at the Royal Star & Garter Home.

The home which cares for disabled veterans and their partners in Upper Brighton Road, Surbiton, was decked in red and gold decorations for Chinese New Year.

Residents also enjoyed a lunch of crab and sweetcorn soup, chow mein, spring rolls, beef in black  bean sauce and baked bananas in coconut milk.

Those born in the Year of the Rat are thought to be clever, quick thinkers, successful but content with living a quiet and peaceful life.
