Surbiton photographer Chris Arthur’s exhibition of pictures which he took of actors in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s is now on display at Kingston Museum’s gallery.

Opened last night by the mayor, it focuses on his work at the National Theatre, 1964-1994, images of Michael Gambon, Laurence Olivier and Maureen Lipman, who seems to be aged about 12!

The show runs at Kingston Museum (entry free) in the Fairfield until the end of May. Chris, of Balaclava Road, snapped everyone from Henry V and Albus Dumbledore to Hannibal Lecter and Miss Marple.

The exhibition has a fraction of his 80,000 showbiz pictures, mostly in black and white.

Local images include a 1970s shot from a production at Kingston’s long-gone Overground Theatre, then in Ashdown Road.
