A Surbiton councillor has paid a moving tribute to geriatrician Dr Anton Sebastianpillai, who has died of coronavirus barely two weeks after coming off his last shift at Kingston Hospital.
Both Cllr Yogan Yoganathan and Dr Sebastianpillai settled in Surbiton after arriving in the area from Sri Lanka in the late 1960s.
Dr Sebastianpillai, who lived in Corkran Road and who turned 75 in January, died on April 4.
The consultant was still working at Kingston Hospital 10 days before being admitted to his own intensive care unit.
“He was very active not only in Surbiton but also in Sri Lanka,” said Yogan. “We have known him more than 45 years. A big thank-you to his amazing service as one of the NHS heroes, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
Surbiton MP Ed Davey, who also knew the consultant, has also paid tribute to his work and life.
Full story in The Good Life – a new electronic issue hits the screens on April 21.
