We are living in extraordinary times and Kingston Council is reflecting that by holding an Extraordinary Meeting tonight (Tuesday) to consider the way ahead.

Councillors will discuss the introduction of special temporary decision-making arrangements which will remain in place until at least October 13.

As the ongoing emergency continues to prevent public gatherings, the meeting will take place online with councillors and council staff taking part from their homes.

In the interests of transparency and democratic accountability you will be able to watch the virtual meeting live on the council’s YouTube channel as well as read the agenda ahead of the broadcast at 7.30pm here.

One of the items on the agenda is to ratify the appointment of mayor and deputy mayor. Due to the coronavirus crisis, Cllr Margaret Thompson will remain in her post as mayor for another year while Berrylands ward councillor Sushila Abraham, who was due to become the mayor this year, has been made her deputy, and, all things being equal will take on the role of mayor next year instead.
