It’s worth taking a walk around Tolworth roundabout these days. A second stunning wildlife mural has transformed the entrance to one of its underpasses. It features a common kingfisher, dragonfly, badger and a water vole.

All of the animals can be found locally and inspiration was taken from Surbiton-based Citizen Zoo’s recent film about the Hogsmill River which can be viewed here at www.tinyurl.com/y6wd9d8f

It took WeAreSkyHigh artist Tom less than a week to paint.

The mural is part of the larger ‘wayfinding’ project by Tolworth’s SHEDx highlighting the area’s green spaces and promoting the wildlife of Tolworth Court Farm nature reserve and the Hogsmill River.

It is located on the roundabout on the underpass leading towards the Hollywood Bowl, the ten-pin bowling alley.

Another wildlife mural was painted at the roundabout in November last year and was part of the same initiative by Surbiton’s The Community Brain and features a heron, kestrel and a butterfly.

“We have had such positive feedback about the two murals on Tolworth roundabout, with residents saying it gives them a reason to travel through the underpass,” said Charlotte Levy of SHEDx. “One of the comments about the mural from a local resident included ‘My three-year old absolutely adores them and now runs out the door in the mornings to walk past on the way to nursery’.”

Berrylands ward councillor John Sweeney, who took this picture of the mural while out on a bike ride, said: “I love the way this art has brought new life and pride to a small corner of Tolworth. The SHEDx team have given us a great example of what can be done when we put a bit of love into our communal spaces.

“Places can change if we all lend a hand.”
