Chelsea Women have swept the board by winning the top two individual honours in the 2019-20 season of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Striker Beth England has been named Player of the Season, while Blues manager Emma Hayes, below, is Manager of the Season, having led Chelsea to the title.

Beth scored 14 times in 15 appearances, and was the Blues’ leading scorer for the second successive season. Chelsea Women play at Kingsmeadow in Kingston.

Hayes was undefeated when the season abruptly halted because of coronavirus, with 12 wins and three draws.

Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema won the golden boot with 16 goals.

Miedema just pipped Beth to the title of women’s footballer of the year, as voted on by the Football Writers’ Association.

She finished one vote ahead of Beth England. Chelsea midfielder/striker Guro Reiten was joint third with Lucy Bronze.

The Blues gaffer was crowned by her fellow Women’s Super League managers, a panel of women’s football experts and a public vote on social media.

She beat Nick Cushing (Manchester City), Willie Kirk (Everton), Karen Hill/ Juan Amoros (Tottenham Hotspur) and Casey Stoney (Manchester United).

This is her fourth individual WSL gong this campaign, having been named Manager of the Month in October, January and February.

“I just want to say a big thank-you to my staff,” she said, with typical self-effacement. “This trophy is about the whole group, and a big thank-you to the players for stepping up another level, and thanks again to our fans for being the best in the world.”

Beth said: “I would like to give a special thanks to all the fans for voting for me online. It’s greatly appreciated and means a lot to me.

“I would also like to dedicate this award to my team-mates; without them I would not have been able to have the season I have had.”
