A soup kitchen has opened up in Surbiton to serve hungry children and their families during this half-term week.

As well as two choices of soup, bread and a piece of cake to take away, there are also toiletries for those who need them.

The Souper Soup is running at the Museum of Futures in Brighton Road from noon until 2pm until Friday (30th).

Seventy volunteers have come forward to help run the kitchen as well others who have made donations.

Helper Siobhan Benita said: “Volunteers have been so generous that we probably have more cake than we need – so if you would also like to come along and buy some for a donation that would be great too – we don’t want anything to go to waste! The address is 117 Brighton Road, Surbiton.”

The Antelope in Maple Road is also providing free, healthy lunches to anyone who needs them to help feed their children this week.

“In response to the government’s decision not to help feed kids whose parents are struggling over the half term, we have decided to contribute in our own small way. Drop us an email at [email protected] to let us know how many meals you need,” said a spokesman for The Big Smoke team.

Collections can be made from 9am to 9pm up to and including Friday. Meals will be in recyclable containers to be reheated at home.
