Community heroes Tariq Shabbeer and Des Kay who run The Circulatory upcycling centre in Chiltern Drive, Berrylands, are Frances Moseley award-winners.

The pair, through their Save the World Deliveries group, have been working tirelessly on a voluntary basis throughout the pandemic collecting supermarket food that is still edible but due to be thrown away, and delivering it to those in need across the borough. Five tonnes (!) – with the help of other volunteers – is delivered each week.

Also receiving the award was Surbitonian Mary Parmar of the Alpha Road estate for supporting the community through organising events and helping vulnerable people.

“They are remarkable ambassadors for the borough and the community,” said a Kingston council spokesperson.

The Frances Moseley award is in memory of the late Berrylands ward councillor and housing lead member. It celebrates local people who help the borough’s tenants and leaseholders as well as the wider community.
