Hundreds of hand-made daffodils appeared on trees at a Surbiton care home to mark the day of reflection remembering those lost to Covid during the pandemic.

The garden of the Hamilton nursing home in Langley Avenue was festooned with bright yellow flowers, with residents sitting out in the spring sun enjoying a cake, also decorated with daffs.

It was a chance to pause and reflect on a year of coronavirus on the first anniversary of lockdown, and a minute’s silence was observed at noon.

The daffoldil decorations were made in Langley Avenue with the help of activity coordinator Georgina Sharp, pictured cutting the cake.

“The sun came out for us,” said manager Andrea Day. “We may have lost residents, but all remain in our thoughts.”

Home resident Josephine added: “It was lovely to sit together in the sun, surrounded by all the lovely flowers.’’
