Poet Hilary Walker will read her poem We Are One at an international book launch tomorrow (Thursday).

Hilary, who is representing the UK, was one of only six poets to be chosen to read their poems at this prestigious online Montreal Poetry Prize Anthology 2020 event.

We Are One is about being connected together as a family and the changing roles we have as we journey through life.

Hilary, a member of Surbiton’s cornerHOUSE arts centre’s poetry group, will also answer questions about her poem in her 10-minute slot. Hers was one of 4,645 entries received from 107 countries. Her poem is one of 52 to be featured in the book.

Hosted by the Department of English at McGill University (Leonard Cohen was a student there), the event “is a window into the currents and breezes of contemporary poetry as they are stirring in English around the world today”.

Starts 9pm. Tickets are free and can be booked here. Details of how to buy the book are on the same link.

Details about the cornerHOUSE poetry workshops and reading events are on the Douglas Road arts centre’s website. Search the What’s On events for June at www.thecornerhouse.org
