Her land and seascapes have a desolate beauty about them – and her still lifes a forensic attention to detail.

Long Ditton artist Georgina Allen, whose favourite medium is oil on wood or linen, is staging a solo exhibition of her work at the Piers Feetham Gallery in Fulham until Saturday, October 9.

Georgina, whose trusty pug Maude sits with her on her painting expeditions to Pembrokeshire, the Brecon Beacons, Cornwall, Herefordshire, the Peak District, Teesdale, Wiltshire, Yorkshire and the Cotswolds, studied fine art and painting and has exhibited at numerous galleries all over the country.

She has a fascination for found objects on beaches – stones, broken shells, butterfly wings, withered leaves, stalks, bits of wood, feathers and bones which appear in her still lifes, while wide open country and large skies are pivotal in her landscapes. Her abstracts take on an ethereal quality – reflecting on shape and form, and the space between them.

“My work has divided in two, or perhaps three now, since the two strands have produced a third which combines the other two – small landscapes painted on the spot and what I call ‘still life’.

“Most of the year, in my studio, I work from a huge collection of found objects – they are my vocabulary – and in the last few years I’ve built up a large series of paintings, many of them the same size and shape, which work together and separately. They allow me to paint abstract pictures about relationships between the objects while also enjoying the objects themselves.”

Meet the artist and view her Landscape, Still Life, Abstract exhibition of 88 paintings on Sunday, September 19 from noon to 2pm. All welcome.
