Moogan, from the Downlands Partnership, will be taking part in a two-week conservation grazing project at the 2.4 acre nature reserve off Kingston Road. The grazing by the Sussex cattle will help improve the biodiversity of the meadow and the abundance of wildflowers. Kingston’s biodiversity officer Elliot Newton is looking for volunteers to help monitor Moogan and two of her chums.

A one-hour training session will take place either on Wednesday next week (Oct 6) or on Oct 13 (date to be confirmed), with the trial commencing the following day. The visits will last 30 minutes and Elliot is hoping there will be sufficient interest in the project that volunteers will only need to commit to one or two visits each.

“Volunteers will look at the integrity of the stock fence, the water level in the water trough and make sure that the cows are looking well,” said Elliot.
