The history of St Mary’s Church in Long Ditton and its special link to the sinking of the Titanic will be revealed at an event at the church hall tomorrow (Thursday).

All are welcome to the talk by assistant curate Alison Baverstock.

Alison has been researching the life of Tolworth’s Austin Partner, who died in the shipping disaster on April 15, 1912 and who is buried in the church’s graveyard (see memorial pictured).

There will also be a discussion on St Mary’s role in the community and how it can best be supported in the future.

This will be followed by drinks and homemade treats. Everyone who attends will receive a copy of a short history of St Mary’s Church.

The event, which starts at 7.30pm, is free, but the organisers ask those who wish to attend to book at www.tinyurl.com/Titanictalk so they can get an idea of numbers.
