There’s nothing like a good stretch before a game! Blues captain Magda Eriksson gets ready for the match against Servette with a little light exercise at the press conference in Geneva ahead of this afternoon’s Champions League group clash.

“We’re really excited, and are confident in the squad,” she said. “When we started we knew we had a really tough group, but I love to play Champions League games; they have something extra to them and being the first year with group stages means it’s really exciting to be part of too.

“We’re travelling with the whole squad this time, and everyone is just as important as each other. Having a big squad is going to be so important in the long run.”

How will Chelsea win the game? “We need to be tidy at the back, and ready for anything they may throw at us. We have to go out on the pitch and be good,” she said, ahead of what will be her 30th Champions League match.

Manager Emma Hayes said she anticipated that Pernille Harder would be playing a part against the Swiss top-flight side, despite recovering from a knock picked up on international duty.

“Last week we had a bit of sickness and illness, so it’s difficult to pick the same team,” she said. “From week to week you have players playing every three days for 10 months of the year. It’s the same as the me  n’s game these days. But they can manage that.

“When you’re playing an unknown [team], it’s about your own performance. When you’re the champions, teams don’t want to give you a lot of space. We have a good energy across the team. We have to keep everyone fresh and hungry.”

Hayes said she was enjoying the trip, even if the view from the hotel was a little underwhelming! “It’s nice to be in Switzerland, but I can only see the train station from my room… it would have been nice to see mountains!”

Lauren James will NOT be playing, Hayes has decided. “She’s been out a year, and it’s a long time. She’s got a lot of work to do to catch up. She played 60 minutes [on Sunday], and I’ll probably give her another 75 minutes on Thursday, rather than tomorrow. You won’t see her tomorrow night.”
