Tune in to Radio 3 tomorrow (Christmas Day) and hear a new carol devised by Berrylands’ Tamiko Dooley.

Tamiko won a nationwide BBC Christmas Carol Competition to create a tune to the words of Christina Rossetti’s poem Love Came Down At Christmas.

Her composition was among six shortlisted by a panel of judges from nearly 1,000 entries. Then the public cast their vote for their favourite.

Tamiko’s entry will be broadcast on the radio station, or you can listen to it – and the other five finalists – on the BBC website – just search on the internet for ‘Breakfast – Radio 3 Christmas Carol Competition 2021 – BBC’.

“I heard live on Radio 3 when they opened an envelope revealing the winner’s name,” said Tamiko, who took up playing piano again during lockdown. “My family and I were jumping up and down with joy!

“I am delighted to know that people listened to my carol and enjoyed it. The experience of going through the competition has been truly memorable and this result will encourage my songwriting in all forms. Thank you to all who voted!”
