Where there’s muck there’s brass was the takeaway message from a discussion on the circular economy by members of the Kingston Green Business Community.

Two panels of local entrepreneurs and innovators from the world of fashion, construction, food and the information and communications technology sectors were quizzed by David Symons of environmental consulting company WSP and shared their expertise on reducing, recycling, repurposing and reusing waste at a Think Green discussion at the Quaker Centre in Kingston.

“We need to treat waste as a resource,” said Surbiton resident and head of fashion at Westminster University, Virginia Grose.

Forty members from RBK businesses attended. They heard how local firms are reducing their carbon footprint, saving money and developing new businesses in the green sector from what others consider as waste materials.

The group aims to save resources as well as reduce their environmental impact and running costs. It also identifies potential customers and markets and is linked to other business communities which share the same objectives.
