We’ll Meet Again, the song with which armed forces sweetheart Dame Vera serenaded the troops in World War II, has been recorded by the 50-strong, Surbiton-based, all-women choir while in lockdown.

Their rendition of the wartime morale booster is a tribute to the 75th anniversary of VE Day today (Friday) and is now available in its entirety on the Berrylands Belles Facebook page and at https://youtu.be/GWUGhJ7KRIo

Bec Gresson, pictured, director of the choir which in ‘normal times’ rehearses on a Monday evening at Grand Avenue Primary School, said: “I know that the online rehearsals are giving a lot of joy for the Belles. It has been wonderful to log on every week and see everyone’s smiling faces, share stories, laugh and sing together.

“Many members have told me it is the absolute highlight of their week and something that keeps them going through these difficult times.

“I am so proud of their commitment to both the online rehearsals and the VE Day video project.”

Dame Vera, now aged 103, will be singing the wartime favourite from her home in East Sussex joining in a nationwide mass singalong at 9pm tonight after a broadcast from the Queen.
