Tolworth Girls’ School pupil Evie Burnett has reached the finals of a national songwriting contest.

Evie, 15, who writes under the name of Lilith Bee [Lilith is her middle name, and Bee as her nickname is Evie B] is down to the top ten out of 700 entrants. The top three in the Song Academy’s Young Songwriter 2020 competition will be announced on Tuesday.

The talented musician, who plays guitar, piano and ukulele, and who is doing a GCSE in music at the school in Fullers Way North, said: “I am really happy to have got to the top 10; I never thought my songs would get this far.”

Although only a teenager, her music, which is about the human condition set to catchy melodies, has been played on radio stations around the world.

“I don’t think there is a continent she hasn’t been played on,” said mum Karen.

Evie, who in normal times attends the British School of Rock in Kingston on Saturdays, would love to make a living from her music, ideally as a performer but if not, writing songs for other people.

She has been creating more songs in lockdown from her home off Berrylands Road, and has three ready to record as soon as restrictions are lifted.
