A Tolworth man has been remanded in custody charged with assault and fraud after allegedly injecting a 92-year-old with a fake Covid-19 vaccine.

David Chambers, 33, of Hook Rise North, will stand trial at Kingston Crown Court on two counts of fraud by false representation, one count of assault, and two breaches of Covid-19 restrictions.

Chambers is alleged to have turned up at the pensioner’s home in Kingsmead Avenue, Tolworth, on December 30, and administered the bogus jab in return for £160. He then is said to have returned on January 4 to try to extract another £100 from the woman who lives alone.

Chambers appeared in the dock at Westminster magistrates court yesterday (Friday), indicating he will deny all the charges. He formally entered not guilty pleas to the two fraud charges.

Deputy chief magistrate Tan Ikram remanded Chambers in custody until the crown court hearing on February 12.
