A talk about Shakespeare’s world

Rosemarie Swinfield gives a Shakespearean talk to Surbiton & District Historical Society.
Shakespeare was a country boy from a comfortably off family in Stratford-on-Avon who travelled to the City of London to make his fortune. He is our most famous playwright and yet we know very little about him. However, we do know a lot about the world he lived and worked in.
Rosemarie’s talk follows him as he navigates dangerous, violent Elizabethan London, including the pitfalls an aspiring actor/playwright would encounter in a city of filthy streets, pickpockets and vagabonds.
The meeting, at the cornerHOUSE, starts at 7.30pm, with the bar open from 7pm.
Visitors £4. Annual membership of the society is £20. https://surbitonhistoricalsociety.org/
