If super Fran Kirby achieves a hat-trick for Chelsea Women against West Ham a Kingsmeadow on Sunday afternoon, she’ll make history.
For Fran – after scoring one goal in her previous 14 WSL appearances – has scored a hat-trick in her last two consecutive league games.
If she manages another triple against the Hammers, she would not only become the first WSL player to score hat-tricks in three successive appearances, but would also achieve something that has never been done in the Premier League either.
Meanwhile, the latest batch of Opta stats reveals that Man City’s Nikita Parris has already scored eight WSL goals in 2019, more goals netted than every WSL team in the same time period, other than Arsenal, Chelsea and, obviously, City.
Her hat-trick in her last appearance against Reading took her to two in the all-time charts. Vivianne Miedema is the only player to score three WSL trebles, meaning for the statistically minded that 38% of Miedema’s all-time WSL goals have come in hat-tricks.
Arsenal’s Beth Mead has assisted at least once in seven of her last 12 WSL appearances; her total of 10 assists this season equalling the WSL record set by Chelsea’s Karen Carney in 2016.
Chelsea’s Beth England has scored six goals in her last six WSL appearances.
