Chelsea breezed past Charlton at The Oakwood to be in the hat for Monday’s draw for the Women’s FA Cup 5th round, with teen striker Emily Murphy scoring a brace, writes Jane Grove.
Also netting twice, the evergreen Drew Spence, as the Blues began this season’s FA Cup campaign in style.
There was time at the end for Deanna Cooper, pictured – who played in Chelsea’s back four – to sign autographs for some of the 844 fans who watched the game.
New signing Jamie-Lee Napier started, but fellow newcomer Sam Kerr was rested for the match, with manager Emma Hayes conscious that there’s a busy schedule ahead, including three games this week.
The draw for the next round takes place at 6.40pm, with Ipswich the lowliest side still in the competition after fellow National League Division One South East team Billericay Town lost on penalties to Lewes.
Also in the hat are Birmingham, Bristol City, Everton, Reading and Brighton, as well as Man City, who beat Man United on Saturday.
Chelsea couldn’t break through against Charlton in the first half of normal time, but Spence scored the opener in stoppage time. The second half produced three more goals for the Blues – one a penalty.
Chelsea next play Manchester United in the semi-finals of the Conti Cup on Wednesday, then attention switches back to Kingsmeadow next Sunday as West Ham visit.
