If Liverpool manage to overcome Shrewsbury Town at Anfield in their 4th round FA Cup replay, a double dose of Blues v Reds is looming in the 5th round.

Chelsea Women have been drawn at home to Liverpool Women (the picture is from the teams’ meeting in the autumn), while Chelsea’s men have an identical battle in store at Stamford Bridge, unless the Shrews pull off another miracle in next week’ replay.

Nothing’s plain sailing for the men these days. The team squeezed past Hull City with goals from Michy Batshuayi and Fikayo Tomori, then survived their customary late jitters after the Tigers clawed one back near the end.

Meanwhile, the Blues will have to be on top form to give Leicester City a run for their money this Saturday lunchtime – the Foxes are sitting comfortably in third place, while Chelsea struggle to cling to fourth.

Mateo Kovacic, who had an excellent game against Hull, was praised to the heavens by Frank Lampard afterwards.

Lampard will soon have Ruben Loftus-Cheek back in the reckoning, with the new Premier League winter break coming at just the right time to ease him back into contention.

Every Chelsea fan (and player) was praying Hull wouldn’t sneak an equaliser, as that would have meant interrupting the fortnight-long holiday for a replay.

There is now a gap of two weeks and two days between the Blues’ games against Leicester and Man Utd, with most players flying off to find exotic sunsets. Red sunsets.

The Women’s FA Cup Final will take place at Wembley on Saturday May 9, with tickets already on sale at £15 (for which two children can tag along free). https://ticketing.thefa.com/
