There are two Helens officiating at the first final of the women’s football season at the weekend.

Helen Conley, a Durham referee, will be the woman-in-the-middle for the 2020 FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup Final between Chelsea and Arsenal on Saturday, at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground.

Running the line will be another Helen, Helen Edwards of Liverpool, plus Magda Gola, also from Liverpool. The fourth official for Saturday’s 5.30pm kick-off match is Stacey Pearson from Somerset.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed to The FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup Final,” said ref Helen. “Receiving any appointment from the FA is a huge honour, however a cup final is extra special. It will be a great game played between two of the top women’s teams in the country, and also a great experience to have the opportunity to officiate at an EFL Championship ground.

“I am very lucky to have a strong team of colleagues around me in Helen, Magda and Stacey. I am very much looking forward to the occasion.”

David Elleray, the FA refs’ committee chairman – and a controversial figure for Chelsea’s supporters going back a long, long way – explained: “Appointments for such important matches are based on a number of factors, the most important being current performance levels and fitness. With these factors in mind, we had no hesitation in appointing this talented quartet who we are sure will make a very positive contribution to what should be an exciting and entertaining match.”

The game is live on BT, with some tickets remaining at £10 adults, £1 concs.
