Fifteen-year-old Evie Burnett has triumphed in a nationwide songwriting competition.
The Tolworth Girls’ School pupil beat 427 other aspiring writers in her 13 to 18 age group to win the Song Academy’s The Young Songwriter 2020 competition.
Her entry, Lights of the Sky, was praised by judges for being “breezy and effortless with gorgeous melodies and a killer hook”, for being “unpredictable” and having “lots of vivid imagery” about it.
Evie, who studies GCSE music at the school in Fullers Way North and who writes under the name of Lilith Bee, is now looking forward to recording her winning song with a top producer in London, receiving a professional music video and photos from the recording session, and performing at a special music showcase in November among a plethora of other music-related prizes.
“Its great to have my work out there and feel that others outside my family enjoy the songs I write,” said the teenager who, in normal times, also attends the British School of Rock in Kingston on Saturdays.
“My goal is to keep writing music and make each song better than the last.”

The Song Academy is running online songwriting workshops in early August for those wanting to write their first song or for others who are already writing original songs and who want to develop their talent. For more details visit www.songacademy.co.uk/workshops/holiday-workshops
