Veterans at the Royal Star & Garter Home in Surbiton have marked Armistice Day today (Wednesday) with services on each of its three floors (to allow for social distancing), tea and cake, and nearby Shrewsbury House School laying a wreath outside the Upper Brighton Road building.
On Remembrance Sunday (November 8), veterans watched the annual service at the Cenotaph on TV.
In the days leading up to the services to honour those in the armed forces who have fought in the two World Wars and other conflicts, residents got involved in various Remembrance activities including listening to Dame Vera Lynn’s songs in the home’s music club. They also made poppies which are on display at the home which cares for veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.
