Farewell, Carly. Chelsea’s long-serving goalie is leaving Kingsmeadow to fly to California to join San Diego Wave.
Carly Telford’s last listing on a Chelsea teamsheet came as an unused sub against Brighton in the weekend’s disappointing draw.
The 34-year-old, who made 76 appearances and won four league titles with Chelsea, had started to get into coaching, but will now extend her playing career in the States.
“We didn’t want to lose her, but we couldn’t hold her back from this fantastic opportunity,” said gaffer Emma Hayes. “We wish Carly well in this next chapter of her career and she knows she’ll always be welcome back here any time.” Carly will be at the clash against West Ham on Wednesday evening at Kingsmeadow, for a last farewell to fans.
