Were the organisers of Surbiton’s farmers’ market right to call off today’s event, in the face of Storm Dennis?
Emphatically yes, as this picture – taken on Saturday morning – shows.
One of the giant potted olive trees that guards the door of Cento Uno, right beside where Ralph Wettach’s deli stall would have stood, was felled by an early severe gust from the advance raiding parties of Dennis.
The storm is set to bring a month’s worth of rain to Surbiton in just two days.
The Chelsea v Liverpool women’s match which was due to have taken place at Kingsmeadow on Sunday lunchtime has been pushed back until Monday evening at 7pm.
Ralph Wettach has effectively transferred his business to his shop, just round the corner from Maple Road in Surbiton Road – so market customers needn’t miss out.
Meanwhile, the next Surbiton Farmers’ Market is firmly inked in for Saturday March 21 at 9am.
