A bit rusty on the old bike? Kingston Council is offering free cycle lessons to rebuild confidence on the road – and cycle instructors will even come to your home to teach you!

There are a variety of one-to-one sessions on offer including the very basic skills to learn to navigate around your immediate area, right up to how to cycle on busy roads.

There is also a road confidence cycle skills session, an advanced lesson for regular cyclists and training for the whole family where the instructors will teach you how to ride with your children. These sessions offer the opportunity to build on or prepare for Bikeability skills taught in schools.

“We are now able to provide many more adult and family cycling sessions, including evenings and weekends!” said senior cycle instructor Stuart Lacey. “We offer a variety of sessions, including basic cycle skills, road confidence and family cycle skills. All our sessions are led by our nationally accredited cycle instructors.”

The professional cycling instructors are available seven days a week at a time to suit you whether it be at your home or a local park.

Sessions are limited to one-to-one or in pairs, or two adults and three children for a family lesson. They last 90 minutes each and are tailored to your needs.

The sessions are fully funded by TfL but there is a £10 administration charge for any cancellations within two working days of each session.

To find out more or to book visit Kingston Council’s website here.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions the council is not currently able to offer sessions to complete beginners as its instructors would need to support trainees while they are learning to balance so would not be able to keep a 2-metre distance.

However, if you are unable to cycle at all you can sign up on the council’s waiting list here and you will be contacted when the instructors are able to offer complete beginner sessions.
