Eni Aluko, the Chelsea striker, will see out the rest of her playing career with the women’s wing of the Italian champions Juventus.

The 31-year-old had a great career with Chelsea FC Women, clinching a second Women’s Super League title this season, and also winning two FA Cups.

Manager Emma Hayes gave her the option to stay with the Blues after six years at the club, but – like her colleague Claire Rafferty – she opted for a change.

“Delighted and honoured to join a club with an overwhelming history, ambition and success,” said Aluko, who joins fellow English player ex-Liverpool midfielder Katie Zelem in the squad.

The Turin club won their first Serie A title in the most recent season, and Aluko will join fellow English player Katie Zelem in the squad.

Intriguingly, Juventus FC Women has only existed for a year, since it bought its licence to play from ASD Cuneo Calcio Femminile, signed up a shoal of players and won the title in its first campaign – perhaps summing up the overall state of Italian women’s football.

Aluko met, and clicked, with Juventus head of women’s football Stefano Braghin. “After being at Chelsea for six years I was really hungry for a new experience, and playing in Europe was – for me – something I always wanted to do, particularly after playing in the Champions League and sampling the styles of the other teams.”
