A sketcher is raising money to support food banks by doing a drawing of your home or business.
The artist, who has lived in Surbiton for 15 years, will do an online sketch or painting for a suggested donation of £50 or £100 for a signed and mounted A3 version. You can send a photo or the sketcher will create an impression of the subject from an image on Google Maps (like this commission above in Brighton Road). The A3 version will arrive at your home or business as part of the sketcher’s daily exercise – delivered at a safe distance of course!
“I have always drawn and painted but I’m not a professional artist,” said the artist who wishes to remain anonymous. “The method I use is to sketch out the shapes of the building loosely then add watercolour.
“I choose the colour intuitively rather than from reality. I then ink in the detail using fine liners and brush pens.
“Sketching has been my lockdown hobby and as I live alone it’s keeping me sane-ish,” said the artist who goes by the handle Surbiton Sketcher.
On raising money for The Trussell Trust, a nationwide network of food banks, they said: “This is a really difficult time and even without all this madness there is no reason why anyone should go hungry in this day and age.”
The sketcher has also set up a Facebook page, Surbiton Sketchers, to encourage others to draw and paint during the lockdown.
“I am also trying to set up a local community of artists in the Surbiton area to share ideas and to sketch together when we are allowed out to play. Let’s build a community of local artists and after the lockdown we can all get together for some urban sketching.”
