Police are appealing for witnesses to a hit-and-run in Surbiton on Monday.

The victim, a 29-year-old, was in Victoria Road shortly after 3pm when a vehicle collided with him and then drove off.  It was found abandoned further along the road. A man in his 20s was arrested, after he attended a south London police station the same day, on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of the accident. He was released on bail to a date in October.

The London Ambulance Service attended the scene as well as an air ambulance which landed on top of Sainsbury’s multi-storey car park. The pedestrian was taken to hospital where his condition was described as non life-threatening.

The Met Police’s south west division is investigating the incident and is appealing for witnesses to contact them.

“We have spoken to a number of people at the scene, but we know there are others who saw the incident, or the immediate aftermath, and have not yet spoken to police,” said Detective Inspector Andy Griffin, from South West CID.

“We would urge any witnesses, or anyone who believes they may have any information, to come forward and speak to us. Additionally, we would ask anyone with a dashcam who was in the area at the time, to check whether they inadvertently captured anything that could help our investigation.”

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote reference number 4360/14Sep. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
