His portions are generous and his meals are tasty and nutritious. What else would you expect from a marathon coach who takes groups on training camps in Portugal and France and then chefs for them in the evening?

Neil Aitken, who runs Berrylands HomeChef, started the takeaway service from his house in Surbiton Hill Park in July after lockdown and coronavirus restrictions put the kibosh on his Embrace Sports camps abroad.

“A friend of mine who does HomeChef in Bath got me into it,” said Neil who now cooks up takeaway feasts at weekends.

The menu changes weekly. This Friday and Saturday (Nov 20 & 21) it’s Jamaican Jerk chicken with traditional Caribbean rice and peas and a mango and pomegranate salsa which gives it extra vibrancy. Vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options available too.

Each meal has a starter and a main. Order on Facebook on the Berrylands HomeChef page before end of play on Thursday. Pick up in allotted slots between 6-7.30pm on the Friday or Saturday. If you aren’t on Facebook email Neil to find out more and to order at [email protected]

“The cuisine I cook is from all over the world,” said Neil who developed his cheffing skills after travelling extensively and working with ‘some really great cooks’.

“I create an event each week on Facebook with the menu. Cost is always £9.95 for a starter and main. Sometimes I offer extras for £2 to £3 more but the main £9.95 meal is plenty – we serve big portions!”

Menus have covered Indian and Thai curries, Iberian burger sliders, Moroccan tagines, hot pots, nachos and fajitas, lasagne, roast pork, fusion food, beef bourguignon, vegetable cassoulet, pulled pork, risotto, quiche and more.
