Ten-year-old Gabriel Welsh raises his arms in triumph after finishing a 300km sponsored bike ride.

The Berrylands youngster, who actually notched up 314k (195 miles) – that’s the equivalent of cycling to Swansea – over 11 days (he took a well earned break for two of them) rode the cycle lanes and towpaths of Kingston, Richmond, Marble Hill, and Bushy Park accompanied by proud mum Polly.

The hardest challenge was getting up at the crack of dawn to do the early morning stints which ranged between 15 to 41km.

On the last push on Sunday, March 7, the day before schools went back, the Strava read-out by the suspension bridge at Teddington lock was an impressive 55.19km.

“Getting up early was quite hard,” said Gabriel, who wore his ski jacket and gloves (the family are all keen skiers) to keep out the chill of the bitterly cold 6.30am starts.

The target was to raise £300 in a 300km challenge for Breast Cancer Now. Gabriel has smashed it. The total is now on £955.

Can you help him reach £1,000? To read more about Gabriel’s challenge or to donate, click on this link to Polly and Gabriel’s Cycle 300k fundraiser for Breast Cancer Now on Facebook
